FST 080 - First Responder Skills

Description: This course is designed to assure a basic and predictable level of safety, knowledge, skills and abilities among those individuals destined for assignment to a federal, state, local, volunteer, or industrial fire department and members of Federal Urban Search and Rescue Teams. This course may be offered as Pass/No Pass.

Student Learning Outcomes:
  1. Identify appropriate methods to fight structure, wildland, marine and aviation fires.
  2. Identify appropriate equipment to fight structure, wildland, marine and aviation fires.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge and skill in performing at emergency scenes and providing basic and advanced life support skills.
  4. Demonstrate knowledge and skill in the maintenance and use of equipment for firefighting, rescue incidents and medical pre-hospital incidents.
  5. Identify appropriate equipment necessary to build strength and flexibility in both the upper and lower portion of the body.
  6. Identify meals and snacks that will help lower body fat and build muscle mass
