CHE 210 - General Chemistry I Credits: 5
Prerequisite: CHE 101 and MAT 095 (or placement based on AB705 mandate) Description: This is the first half of a two-semester course in chemistry, intended for majors in the natural sciences (chemistry, biochemistry, biology, physics, pre-medicine), Math, and engineering. The topics discussed in this course cover important concepts of Chemistry that include Nomenclature, Atomic Structure, Quantum Theory, Thermochemistry, Periodic Properties, Chemical Reactions, Stoichiometry, Gas Laws, Molecular Structure, Bonding, States of Matter, and Solutions. Additionally, the course may cover topics on Reaction Energies, Kinetics, Nuclear Chemistry and Organic Chemistry. Moreover, the CHE 210 accompanies a sequence of laboratory activities intended to support the above topics including both qualitative and quantitative experiments, analysis of data and error propagation. (CHEM 110)
Transferable Transferable to both UC and CSU
General Education:
- CalGETC: Transfer General Education Requirements ( 5- Physical and Biological Sciences- 5A: Physical Science, 5- Physical and Biological Sciences- 5C: Laboratory )
Student Learning Outcomes:
- Apply the knowledge in solution stoichiometry to solve related problems
- Use the knowledge in Thermochemistry to determine the amounts of energy exchanged in chemical reactions
